More Than Music: Jacquees, FYB Records & the Making of an Era
Updated: Sep 19

Atlanta, GA - There is something about an Atlanta music event that cannot be replicated anywhere else. The right room can bring together artists, media, executives, creatives, and tastemakers while creating a moment that extends far beyond the event itself. That energy was on full display at Rolling Out Live, where more than 150 invited guests gathered for an intimate Cover Conversations experience centered around Jacquees and the next chapter of his career.
Curated by Rolling Out’s Head of Music A&R, Carrie Michelle, the evening was designed around more than a cover reveal. It offered an inside look at Jacquees’ evolving artistry, his independent imprint FYB Records, and his highly anticipated project, Mood 2. With Atlanta’s music and entertainment industry represented throughout the room, the experience felt like a snapshot of where R&B and independent artistry are headed next.
For Jacquees, the evening marked an important moment. After years of establishing himself as one of contemporary R&B’s most recognizable voices, he is entering a new phase that places greater emphasis on ownership, independence, and building beyond the music. The unveiling of his Rolling Out cover and exclusive first listen to Mood 2 gave guests an early introduction to that next chapter.
But what made the experience especially compelling was the conversation surrounding the music.
During a candid Q&A moderated by Brook Ellison, Jacquees discussed the inspiration behind Mood 2, the direction of FYB Records, and his vision for the future. Rather than simply promoting a new project, the conversation gave guests a closer look at the creative and business decisions shaping his career.

That conversation reflects a much larger shift happening across the entertainment industry. Artists are no longer expected to exist solely within the role of performer. They are building companies, developing brands, creating platforms, and taking greater ownership of the businesses surrounding their artistry. For independent artists and labels, that evolution is changing what it means to build a career that can last beyond a single album cycle.
FYB Records is part of that story.
The imprint represents Jacquees’ continued investment in creating a platform of his own, while Mood 2 introduces another piece of his creative evolution. Together, they point toward an artist who is thinking beyond the immediate moment and more intentionally about what his career can look like years from now.
